Inappropriate data buffer changes can cause system problems. Before manually changing data buffer settings, make sure you understand its impact on your device.

buffer apply

Use buffer apply to apply manually configured data buffer settings.

Use undo buffer apply to cancel the application.

Usage guidelines

After applying manually configured data buffer settings, you cannot directly modify the applied settings. To modify them, you must cancel the application, reconfigure data buffer settings, and reapply the new settings.

Examples

buffer total-shared

Use buffer total-shared to set the shared-area size.

Use undo buffer total-shared to restore the default.

Syntax

In standalone mode:

buffer { ingress | egress } [ slot slot-number ] packet total-shared size-value

undo buffer { ingress | egress } [ slot slot-number ] packet total-shared

In IRF mode:

buffer { ingress | egress } [ chassis chassis-number slot slot-number ] packet total-shared size-value

undo buffer { ingress | egress } [ chassis chassis-number slot slot-number ] packet total-shared

Default

The shared-area size is 1024 buffer resources for the ingress buffer and 4096 buffer resources for the egress buffer.

Parameters

ingress: Specifies the ingress buffer.

egress: Specifies the egress buffer.

slot slot-number: Specifies a card by its slot number. If you do not specify a card, this command applies to all cards. (In standalone mode.)

chassis chassis-number slot slot-number: Specifies a card on an IRF member device. The chassis-number argument represents the ID of the IRF member device. The slot-number argument represents the slot number of the card. If you do not specify this option, the command applies to all cards of the IRF fabric. (In IRF mode.)

size-value: Specifies the size of the shared area, in the number of buffer resources. The value range for this argument is 0 to 2048 for the ingress buffer and multiples of 512 between 0 and 5120 for the egress buffer.

Usage guidelines

After you set the shared area size, the remaining buffer space is automatically assigned to the fixed area.

Only FD cards, FG cards, and cards with silk screen LST1XP16LEB1, LST1XP16LEC1, or LST1XP16LEC2 support configuring the ingress buffer (the ingress keyword). FD and FG cards refer to the cards with silk screen ending with FD and FG, respectively.

To enable PFC on an interface on a card, you must set the ingress buffer to be greater than or equal to 640 buffer resources. For information about PFC, see Interface Configuration Guide.

After an ISSU reboot, you must re-set the shared-area size for the ingress buffer.

# In standalone mode, set the shared area to 2048 buffer resources for the egress buffer on card 2.

Use display buffer to display buffer size settings.

Syntax

In standalone mode:

display buffer [ slot slot-number ]

In IRF mode:

display buffer [ chassis chassis-number slot slot-number ]

Parameters

slot slot-number: Specifies a card by its slot number. If you do not specify a card, this command displays buffer size settings for all cards. (In standalone mode.)

chassis chassis-number slot slot-number: Specifies a card on an IRF member device. The chassis-number argument represents the ID of the IRF member device. The slot-number argument represents the slot number of the card. If you do not specify this option, the command displays buffer size settings for all cards of the IRF fabric. (In IRF mode.)

Usage guidelines

This command displays the buffer size settings for the shared area.

·     Number of the slot that holds the card. (In standalone mode.)

·     Number of the slot that holds the card. The first number indicates the ID of the IRF member device, and the second number indicates the number of the slot that holds the card. (In IRF mode.)

Type

Data buffer type.

(Total-shared)

Size of the shared area. If the switch does not support a buffer type, this field displays two hyphens (--).

--: Not supported.

If the switch does not support a configuration, two hyphens (--) are displayed.
