Empowering China Unicom 5G Smart MAN successfully go online

In recent times, H3C has assisted China Unicom in successfully deploying Smart Metropolitan Area Networks (Smart MAN) in multiple locations, marking the comprehensive commercial deployment of H3C's Smart MAN solution. This achievement has received full recognition and approval from several provincial branches of China Unicom.

Amid the accelerated development of 5G brought about by the 'New Infrastructure' initiative, traditional metropolitan area network architectures faced challenges in supporting 5G's high bandwidth, cloudization, cloud-network integration, and SDN services. In response, China Unicom proposed a new metropolitan area network architecture for the 5G era, emphasizing convergence of fixed and mobile networks, integrated cloud and network, and a combination of physical and virtual elements. The 5G Smart MAN, as the main carrier network for China Unicom's 5G, breaks away from the traditional siloed network architecture, constructing a converged carrier network platform, playing a crucial role in promoting the overall development of the 5G industry.

As a trusted core value partner for operators, H3C's Smart MAN products fully support high-precision timing, SR+EVPN, and other technologies to meet the evolving demands of 5G networks and metropolitan area network services. In March 2020, H3C secured bids for the full range of core, aggregation, and access layers in the China Unicom Smart MAN joint procurement, and subsequently, actively deployed its solutions. This led to the successful launch of 5G Standalone (SA) networks based on H3C's Smart MAN solution in multiple provinces and cities.

H3C assisted China Unicom in Henan Province to complete the opening of 5G services in eight cities, including Luohe, Hebi, Sanmenxia, Xuchang, Zhumadian, Xinyang, Zhoukou, and Jiaozuo. Notably, H3C supported Hebi Unicom in opening the first 5G SA base station based on Smart MAN, achieving the early deployment of 5G independent networking in Henan Province. Additionally, in Heilongjiang Province, H3C assisted Heihe Unicom in the construction of all Smart MAN networks in the city and conducted BBU business tests.

Recently, H3C also supported Dongying Unicom in Shandong Province to open dual-carrier base stations based on SA networking, with a downstream speed exceeding 2Gbps. The consecutive launches in multiple cities signify the successful commercial deployment of H3C's Smart MAN solution and have gained wide recognition and high praise from operators.

In the practical deployment of the 5G SA network, the H3C team not only comprehensively met customer standards in technology and services but also, with a strong sense of responsibility and mission, tackled delivery challenges. In collaboration with Heihe Unicom, despite the impact of epidemic prevention and control policies, the H3C project team actively overcame challenges, completing the core and aggregation equipment debugging in Aihui District within a week and all core and aggregation equipment debugging in the entire city within a month. They coordinated with BBU for business testing, becoming one of the first cities in Heilongjiang Province to complete the construction of the Smart MAN project. In cooperation with Luohe Unicom, the H3C team faced the challenge of tight deadlines and heavy tasks. Fully prepared to overcome difficulties, they completed delivery ahead of schedule, aiding Luohe Unicom in becoming one of the earliest cities in Henan Province to have all core and aggregation layers online.
