Background
With the development of IoT in the education industry, the construction of IoT in education has attracted considerable attention from the society. How to get the most value from IoT has been studied extensively and deeply. With the advent of the revolution of new science and technology, the IoT technology has made rapid progress, promoting the construction of smart campuses. It has become the key to the development of human-oriented education to create an intellisense learning environment.
In February 2019, the CPC Central Committee and the State Council issued China's Education Modernization 2035, requiring all regions and departments to conscientiously construct the future campus environment to raise the level of campus intelligence. At present, many colleges and universities in China have begun to accelerate the construction of smart campuses. The campus infrastructure data is collected in real time through IoT technology to realize refined management of campus, laying an important foundation for the construction of smart campus.
Difficulties
The major issues in campus management are as follows:
1. Great energy consumption and high electricity costs
The daily lighting management measures are insufficient. The lights are usually left on after class or after school or the lights are all on in case of bright sunlight.
The lack of reasonable and effective control measures on seasonal peak power consumption causes waste of energy. For example, students leave the classroom after school, but the air conditioner still runs normally at low temperatures, causing a large waste of power.
2. Time-consuming, labor-intensive, and inefficient manual inspection
The campus security guard needs to check whether the air conditioner or light is turned off every few hours, spending tens of minutes to two or three hours each time, which is time-consuming and inefficient.
3. Safety hazards
The lack of effective supervision on the high-power electrical devices may cause safety hazards due to the power overload.
4. The teaching environment directly affects the learning efficiency
Outdoor environment pollution, indoor decoration air pollution and lighting conditions directly affect students' learning efficiency.
Overall architecture
The overall architecture of the solution of IoT campus for general education has three layers. Compared with the traditional mode, the platform is integrated with services in the solution.
Smart terminal layer: The southernmost layer, including environment monitoring sensor (temperature and humidity, air quality detector), safety monitoring sensor (gas, water immersion, and smoke), lighting control device (smart switch) and electrical management device (smart socket).
The devices at the terminal layer are mainly provided by partners. In this solution, the terminal devices are currently accessed via Zigbee technology.
Network facility layer: IoT can be deployed with or without wireless networking.
IoT ad hoc network: T320 series + Zigbee card: Provide Zigbee access to smart terminal layer devices, and allow access to LAN through Ethernet, and finally to the IoT service platform.
Wireless + IoT hybrid networking: Integrated networking and unified management of wireless and IoT networks can be achieved through IOT AP. It connects to wireless endpoints and smart IoT endpoints via a downlink.
Service platform layer: As a dedicated integrated platform for the IoT campus solution, the IoT service platform realizes the unified management of network and terminal device through V9 AC+ IoT card or IoT appliance. Meanwhile, a variety of application systems are built-in, including lighting management, appliance management, environmental monitoring, and security management.
