Construction background

Content support is urgently needed with the rapid development of UHD/4K terminals in China. The Ministry of Industry and Information Technology of the People's Republic of China, the National Radio and Television Administration, and the China Media Group have formulated the UHD development plan for eight provinces and cities. UHD has become a national strategy promoted by ministries, commissions, provinces and cities. Under the 5G+ converged media environment, the creation of a UHD-oriented omni-media solution is a top priority for the current media industry.

To promote the development of the UHD industry and enable more users to enjoy superior audio-visual experience such as higher definition, broader color gamut, better HDR videos and stereo audio brought about by 4K technology, H3C has launched an UHD-oriented digital media solution. This solution covers the entire process of convergence, converged production, converged content management and converged publishing. It is mainly applied to the converged production, 4K UHD production, broadcasting and converged content management in provincial technical platforms of district and county converged media, provincial and municipal television stations, and provincial and municipal newspaper groups. It also includes the UHD converged media cloud platform solution, media IP matrix solution, 5G+4K cloud non-linear solution, 8K distributed production solution, virtual broadcasting solution and UHD storage solution.

UHD converged media cloud platform solution

According to the service requirements of media organizations, this converged media cloud platform solution adopts numerous cloud-based 4K video and audio technologies and emerging technologies such as big data and AI. It provides a dedicated cloud service platform for the media industry and can provide cloud platform support services for one-stop solutions such as content planning, direction, collection, convergence, production, exchange, release, distribution, evaluation, and live streaming, helping the media industry create greater value.

This solution supports the services of county-level converged media centers, including media services, party-building, government services, public services and value-added services. Through the construction concept of "media + party building + government + service + operation", it incubates, stimulates and empowers the county-level converged media centers, and continuously strengthens the grass-root mainstream media in dissemination, guidance, influence and public trust in respect of news and public opinions.

Media IP matrix solution

The H3C media IP matrix solution adopts the SDN architecture. It supports core scheduling and edge scheduling modes, and is compatible with both SDI over IP uncompressed signal flow and TS over IP compressed signal flow. It can intelligently, visually, graphically and finely manage HD and 4K/8K UHD IP signal flows, realize highly reliable internal scheduling of large-scale audios and videos, adapt to different business scenarios such as master control, OB truck, studio, broadcasting and recording, and help customers build IP production and broadcasting solutions quickly.

5G+4K cloud non-linear solution

The H3C 4K cloud non-linear solution is the first end-to-end cloud-based non-linear solution in the industry. It realizes end-to-end adaptation through the high-performance GPU resource pool and the self-developed 4K VDI remote cloud desktop. With high performance, it supports mainstream non-linear systems in the industry and can offer a real-time source video editing capability at 500 500Mbps. With remote production capability, it enables video production out of the equipment room and fully supports LAN- and Internet-based video editing, realizing 4K video production at any time and from anywhere. With an elastic architecture, a single device can easily output HD or 4K videos or audio at the same time and can achieve the large-scale application of clusters through the software-defined method.

8K distributed production solution

The 8K distributed production solution of H3C adopts a distributed video processing architecture with separated front and back ends. The front end deploys a lightweight video workstation, and the back end deploys a high-performance rendering cluster. Both of them realize the high-performance transmission of uncompressed 8K baseband data through the low-latency RDMA technology, meeting the production requirements of 8K programs.

Blade server–based broadcasting and virtual solution

The H3C broadcasting and virtual solution enables one blade server to provide the core broadcasting services of the entire radio and TV station, which features rapid online, stability and reliability. It realizes resource sharing, unified management and lightweight broadcasting based on virtualization. By adopting cloud desktop and SRIOV technology, it also supports the deployment of broadcasting control workstation and video server virtualization, supports ST 2059-2 PTP clock, and can support IP-based 4K broadcast.

Fully-converged architecture with massive distributed 4K media storage

The H3C fully-converged architecture with massive distributed storage provides a converged storage resource pool for high-quality 4K production, enabling producers to produce and broadcast 4K programs smoothly and at ease. It features:
High scalability: The distributed architecture can scale horizontally and flexibly. It supports up to 288 nodes and a capacity of 50 PB, and supports scale-up without downtime;
High reliability: It ensures no data loss in case of multiple nodes or drive failure, and can rapidly recover erroneously deleted data through snapshots;
High performance: The bandwidth of a single node exceeds 1.2 Gb/s, fully meeting the needs of 4K/8K production and broadcasting.

Construction case:

The digital media solutions of H3C have helped several media organizations, such as the China Media Group and the Beijing Radio & Television Station, to build UHD production and broadcasting platforms, and have served major sports events such as the XXIV Olympic Winter Games and the National Games of the People's Republic of China.
