H3C: A Hero Behind the "Wuzhen Time"

The fourth World Internet Conference was successfully held in December 2017, and Wuzhen of Zhejiang Province was once again in the spotlight for players in the worldwide technology and Internet industries. Such a success fully illustrates the rapid development of Internet in China, which is driving infrastructure network construction worldwide, and also shows the Wuzhen World Internet Conference's growing impact. The Internet has brought the world closer together by demonstrating the benefits and new order of governance that China has unleashed on the global Internet, laying out a blueprint for a "Chinese view of the Internet."

Focusing on the smooth operation and rapid spread of the World Internet Conference in Wuzhen, it has become crucial to ensure that visitors can freely access the Internet and enjoy the "fast speed" of the network.

To provide a wireless network solution featuring complete coverage, high quality, and high security for the conference, the working group of the World Internet Conference selected H3C as the official network service and technical support provider. Everywhere is covered in a high-quality wireless network built by H3C, from the conference's primary site, the International Conference Center, to the International Convention and Exhibition Center, and from the Wangjinli and Waterside Resort to the picturesque locations of Xizha, Dongzha, and Wucun, where guests are gathered.

Actively prepare for the fourth World Internet Conference to provide network assurance

The World Internet Conference has put forward urgent requirements on the network: high efficiency for large-scale Internet access, complete wireless coverage of the venue and scenic areas, and high stability and security. Therefore, the primary goal of the wireless network team is to accelerate the network efficiency in Wuzhen.

As a four-time participant in wireless network assurance for the World Internet Conference, H3C dispatched a conference assurance group to Wuzhen in October. The group consisted of nine teams and more than fifty technical experts from the project management product, and software R&D departments. Meanwhile, H3C built up a 1:1 simulated network for the World Internet Conference at the Hangzhou base laboratory to guarantee quick verification and elimination of unexpected emergencies. Contingency plans for potential failure scenarios were developed in advance of the conference to make sure that services could be restored quickly in case of any failure.

From November 28 to December 5, H3C arranged for on-site network assurance personnel to be stationed in Wuzhen 24 hours a day. These personnel were selected by H3C from a range of departments, including the service software and network departments. They had considerable expertise in network assurance for major international conferences, including the BRICS Conference, the G20 Summit, and the "One Belt One Road" Forum.

H3C's massive wireless network with high quality and wide coverage included thousands of wireless APs, over a hundred switches, wireless controllers, vBRAS servers, and firewalls, which handled the exceptionally large quantity and density of users with flexibility. With a peak rate of 1,950Mbps, it allowed the 4th World Internet Conference to easily support 6,895 peak wireless terminal users. The high-speed Gigabit wireless network was available to all guests, who can use it without experiencing any hotspot switching anywhere in the Wuzhen scenic area.

The fast speed, convenient experience, and high security are impressive. During an interview at the conference site in Wuzhen, a visiting reporter even highlighted in the report that five applications on the phone had been instantly refreshed and updated in less than 30 seconds. Public networks elsewhere might have crashed if they had such a large number and density of users as the Wuzhen World Internet Conference.

Four years of expertise and sophisticated technology connected Wuzhen to the world

Since 2014, H3C has participated in wireless network assurance for the World Internet Conference four times and has consistently provided the world with satisfactory responses.

In 2015, the conference adopted the vBRAS perception-free authentication solution provided by H3C, which enables seamless integration and unified authentication and management across networks in various domains. After connecting to the "i-zhejiang-aWiFi" hotspot, visitors in Wuzhen can access the mobile network resources within a certain period of time without logging in again. In addition, intelligent identification technologies were used to achieve multiple levels of security protection for user network connection by identifying the identities of visitor in different categories. H3C established a service assurance team, which visited the location numerous times before the conference, held various Wi-Fi deployment seminars based on the venue's actual features, and carried out all-around testing one by one after the devices were set up. Together with local O&M engineers, H3C dispatched more than 20 technical experts to the conference site to be on duty 24 hours a day to ensure the smooth operation of the "i-zhejiang-awifi" network access service.

As the third World Internet Conference's supplier of wireless network hardware and solutions in 2016, H3C also took on the network assurance and optimization task, fully overseeing and making steady progress.

After escorting the first three World Internet Conferences, H3C successfully completed the task of protecting the fourth Wuzhen World Internet Conference and local wireless network.
