H3C recently attended the 2020 AIoT (Artificial Intelligence of Things) Industry Year-End Grand Ceremony launched in Beijing, sharing its practice of developing solutions to private 5G networks for industrial IoT (Internet of Things) at the event. H3C believes private 5G industrial networks will accelerate the application of IoT services in related vertical industries.
By integrating its own products with industrial applications of its ecosystem partners, H3C has launched private 5G network solutions for industrial IoT, realizing unified IoT service bearer, local closed-loop control of data, and self-management and self-service for the entire network.
On the access side of the IoT, H3C’s independently-developed 5G cloud small cell solution offers all IoT services unified access to private 5G industrial networks, and can flexibly expand IoT modules such as access point (AP), ultra-wide bandwidth (UWB) and bluetooth. As for the network and platform side, it has also created a “5G Integrated Smart Engine” to build an IoT pivot for the private networks. While with regard to the application, H3C collaborates with ecosystem partners to integrate full-scenario 5G IoT applications to satisfy various demands of customers.
Combining H3C’s three major products, namely the lightweight 5G Core (5GC) network, Oasis IoT platform and unified management system, the “5G Integrated Smart Engine” achieves cloud and network integration for 5G IoT networks and IoT platforms and make unified cloud edge deployment.
So far, H3C has completed some trials of private 5G network solutions for industrial IoT. Together with China Mobile Research Institute and China Mobile Hangzhou, the company has piloted the application of private 5G IoT networks in industrial scenarios at the trial production workshop of the headquarter of H3C in Hangzhou, during which the company realized the application of its 5G cloud small cell solution in the 4.9GHz band, a first in the industry.
H3C describes the evolution of private 5G networks for industrial IoT as three stages. During the first stage of exploration (2019-2021), users “want to use” private 5G networks for industrial IoT and mainly carry out pilot application in some vertical scenarios. The second stage of enrichment will take place from the year 2021 to 2023, when users “can use” these private IoT networks. At the same time, the commercialization of the Release 16 of the 3rd Generation Partnership Project (3GPP) and cost reduction of 5G IoT networks terminals are expected to facilitate the application of these networks in IoT scenarios of more industries. After the year 2023, the application of such private IoT networks will enter the third stage of evolution. By that time, people will “dare to use” these private IoT networks, while 5G will fully integrate with industry applications and it will become necessary to focus on competitive industries and strengthen customized services for industries, according to H3C.
H3C believes that the current private 5G industrial networks mainly follow two business models. In the first model, private networks are dominated by carriers, while in the second model, integrators and facilitators play the dominant role in the implementation of the networks. Both business models require the full participation of ecosystem partners.
As a leader in digital solution and a mainstream networking equipment vendor for carriers, H3C will join hands with carriers and 5G industrial ecosystem partners to explore the commercial deployment of private 5G networks for industrial IoT across various industries and accelerate the digital transformation.
