Rosedale on the Park is a boutique hotel located in the heart of Causeway Bay and overlooking the world-famous Victoria Harbor. As part of the Rosedale Hotel Group, Rosedale on the Park offers business and leisure travelers a consistently high level of comfort and personalized care, amid a home-away-from-home ambiance. Aside from Hong Kong, the Group has several locations in China: Rosedale Hotel & Suites, Guangzhou, Rosedale Hotel & Suites, Beijing and Times Plaza Hotel, Shenyang.

To continue to cultivate its expanding core of loyal customers, Rosedale on the Park wanted to offer high-speed wireless service to its guests throughout the hotel's 274 rooms. Rosedale on the Park's commitment to provide guests with high-quality value-added services required a solutions provider that could supply a new wireless infrastructure with wide range covering the whole building with high security, stability and reliability. The network would also need to be easy to manage to help keep the operation costs low and make the hotel's IT staff more efficient and productive. After a thorough review, Rosedale on the Park selected H3C's secure wireless solution that offered reliable accessibility and outstanding mobility for its wireless installation.

The Solution

H3C installed a new wireless infrastructure so Rosedale on the Park could provide complete wireless service to its guests. The H3C wireless guest network solution comprised dual WX2200 Wireless LAN (WLAN) controllers connected to Power-over-Ethernet (PoE) S4500 switches and more than 100 AP2750 Access Point (AP) devices distributed on each floor of the hotel.

The H3C wireless switch solution offers Rosedale on the Park network redundancy, auto channel and power management capabilities to maintain stable wireless coverage, together with a secure wireless roaming environment that allows the hotel's guests to connect once and roam anywhere in the hotel with true session integrity. It also increases the awareness of the hotel's Radio Frequency (RF) environment, identifying rogue APs and other potential infiltrators; enhances user and/or group security and enforcement by creating virtual private groups, each with unique requirements. For simple and efficient network management, the H3C wireless switch manager features a graphical user interface that provides real-time MAP (Managed Access Points), RF coverage and traffic capacity information to the Rosedale's IT team.

The AP2750 access points can also be configured to support up to 32 Service Set Identifier (SSID) and the WX2200 wireless switch controllers support up to 120 managed access point devices and are incrementally expandable for "pay-as-you-grow" flexibility. The PoE S4500 switch gives the Rosedale on the Park greater energy-efficiency by supplying power for the AP devices and through port isolation technology, the S4500s further guard the network against hacker intrusion attacks and broadcast storms.
