The Challenge
The increasing traffic in the Korea National Sport University (KNSU)’s local network led to frequent network failures. KNSU, therefore, embarked on a campus-wide project to upgrade its existing network configuration and replace the existing equipment. This project started in July 2005 and lasted for around 3 months.
Technology Solution
When selected as the network equipment provider, H3C proposed to upgrade the network and redundant cables for KNSU. H3C believed that, in order to manage network traffic created by 3,000 students, professors and employees at KNSU, the most important thing is to establish a reliable network backup system configuration, upgrade the network and local redundant cables, and ensure rapid recovery when failure occurs.
By adopting H3C’s solution including backbone switch H3C S7500 and H3C S3600 series switches to support L2/L3, KNSU’s network has been upgraded to be redundant across the campus. The core solution equipped KNSU with a complete backup system. Moreover, all equipment can automatically diversify the traffic load from the disrupted module to others without any loss of traffic. By duplicating the entire network, KNSU accomplished its major goal of upgrading the IT environment to respond to the requirements from the campus.
Benefits
In brief, introducing Gigabit Ethernet as the cutting edge network technology not only allows H3C Korea to deploy the high-speed and mass information distribution network, but also kicks off a new era of multimedia information and communication.
KNSU evaluated this project as the foundation for upgrading the network to accommodate diversified applications such as establishing a multimedia environment and WLAN within the next year or two.
